Hey all! I hope everyone’s had a nice last few weeks! Welcome to any new readers! Hopefully you’re enjoying the story! Matt and I got back from our trip Saturday evening and spent yesterday recuperating and trying to organize ourselves.
Midwest Furfest was great! I don’t have as much to report as I did last year, mainly because everything is still a blur. But, I did want to say a big thank you to everyone for having us out again! We got to meet up with friends and make some new ones. *grins* While sales weren’t that great, we made back gas, table, and food so… it’s all good. And, more importantly, we had fun! My parents are doing well and Iowa was as relaxing and laid back as always. Though they tore down the church next to our old house in Clinton, IA. Poor old church.
Matt and I don’t take vacations often so, MFF and the Iowa trip are shaping up to be our yearly break. Though we may be looking into trading my car in for a larger vehicle soon. My little Neon was over-packed and riding low. And Neons do not make good low riders.
Yes, we’ll be heading back next year. The con as well as the trip helped generate some new ideas for us. For one thing, Matt and I have come up with an interesting way of handling requests for commissions. I’ve kept the commissions closed due to time and health (blah, blah, blah – no fun). I’ve also wanted to do some art for charity, but know that prints are not big sellers for me. So, what to do? We got to thinking and decided that I’ll offer up a full commission for the charity auctions in the future. There will be no other way of getting a commission. So please, don’t ask. More on that at a later date.
I also want to do some work for the various art shows. Seems books are not big sellers at furry cons. You guys just want prints and commissions, you wacky furs, you. *wink*
And no one bought a T-shirt. We didn’t sell a single one. Our poor shirts. They’re so lonely. Which, as you can guess, means we won’t be doing the shirt thing again anytime soon. While we can eat the cost, we don’t have room to store the suckers.
But, that’s neither here nor there. What was I going on about…? Oh yes, other ideas! A long drive and a lot of music seems to generate more comic plans in me. I have another title I hope to start in a month or so. But, that’s for me, Matt, and the Supporters to discuss. At least, for right now.
I am finding that the cons, MFF especially, seem to be helping me overcome some of my anxieties with the fandom and crowds. It’s not going to happen overnight, I’m working against eight plus years of issues here (ex-stalker who was a furry, not a pretty tale), but I’m more willing to hug people and be a bit more interactive now. I wonder if I should make a button saying, “Trying to get over being shy. Please help.” Who knows, it might work.
And now a part of me wants a Ruby fursuit. *laughs*
Site-wise, the rebuild was put on hold due to Matt working on the MFF site. He’s handling the back end of their site this year and, as with every new site, there are a few bugs to work out. But, we are working on it and will hopefully have things up and fully functional soon. Sorry about any errors that may be popping up in the meantime. I know I run across a few on the Supporters side now and then.
With us being home again, the store is now back open. The big thing is Issue 8 is now available in print. Cool! Also, the shirts have been marked down from $15 to $10 – again, short on storage space.
Um… I think that’s all for now. I’m still a little wound for sound and am trying to get myself back to work. I’ll be starting the December wallpaper here in a bit – should have that available in a day or so. But for now, I should give my folks a call and let them know we got in alright. Thanks for reading and take care!
